| The
Ceremonial Association of Surrey Police (CASPER) was created in early
2006 by Police Constable 1498 Tony EVERSON-DARRAGH, and was as a direct
result of ceremonial activities carried out by members of the Walking
Association of Surrey Police (WASP) who were participating in the
100km van Ieper which is a walking event held in the Ieper Salient
in May.
At that particular event
the officers from WASP apart from the walking activity took part
in the following commemorative events.
|
|
| |
•
Last Post ceremony at the Menin gate. |
| |
•
Inauguration of a headstone at The London Rifle’s Cemetery,
Plugstreet, Belgium. |
| |
•
Nocturne ceremony at Plugstreet Woods Cemetery. |
| |
•

The Association’s creation was further motivated by an official
invite from the Parade Master of the Armistice Day / Poppy Parade
and the Bergermeister of Ieper, Belgium to bring a Police contingent
and ‘actively ‘participate in the Parade.
Therefore in
November 2006, a contingent of Eight (8) Police officers, one (1)
retired officer, former Inspector Geoff PHILLIPS and Five (5) Constables
from the Port of Dover Police was honoured to assist with and participate
in the armistice event.
This was the
first occasion a British Police contingent actively participated
and parade certainly, as far as anyone can remember in over 20 Years
at the Armistice parade. This aspect was not overlooked by the public
in attendance, who gave the contingent an ovation as it marched
away from the Menin gate.
As a result,
members of the contingent were asked if they would be willing to
co-ordinate ‘British’ Police participation for the event
in future.
Subsequently
invites and resultant activities of the group have expanded we are
proud to have participated in the following events. Which as you
can see provided an interesting, varied, but busy itinerary;
